Time to race!

Pre-reg is closed, and we have racers signed up from 15 states, Washington DC, and Quebec. There is still plenty of room in all the categories. Come out on race day and sign up from 7:30 to 8:30, 11 to noon, or 1:30 to 2:30. Need more motivation? All the registrants’ goody bags contain a coupon for a free parfait from our friends at Chick-fil-A of Boone.

Other news: the great volunteers from the Appalachian State Wine-to-Water Campus Chapter will be running the wheel trucks all day, so remember the spare wheels and make sure you get your race number clearly marked on each.

Come hungry: our hostesses at River Girl Fishing Co. will be selling gourmet coffee, bagels and cream cheese in the morning, and breaking out the grill in the afternoon selling hot dog and hamburger plates. All the profits are going to the Wine to Water Haiti Relief Fund.

Look pretty:  there will be a TV crew showing up for the finish of the morning races and the start of the noon races.

Course Report 3/24

Just back from another pre-ride: course is in great shape, and dry despite the recent rain. There is some more gravel down, so keep those tires pumped up. Here are Daniel Sapp (Mock Orange Bikes) Sean Weddle (Metro Graphics) and Alison Forkner (VO2 Sports) getting ready for race day

Course Report – March 18 and 19, 2010

We rode the new and improved course with Shelli Welsh (Fiets Mann Racing), owner of The Perfect Fit Training Studio in Lenoir on Thursday and shot a promo video with Eric Crews at High Country Adventures TV on Friday. The course was shockingly dry and pothole free. NCDOT has graded all the unpaved roads and put down some gravel, most of which was already packed in. The paved sections are all in incredible shape as well. The pictures are posted on the Photos page, and we plan to have the video posted Monday.

So far we have 43 racers signed up from 10 states – don’t miss your chance to take part in this incredible event, and help support Wine to Water’s efforts to restore drinking water throughout Haiti. Kelly and the gang at River Girl Fishing Company in Todd as excited to be our hosts, an are planning on setting up the smoker and the hot dog cart (yes, there will be a veggie option), and they have a fleet of comfort bikes, kayaks, canoes, and floats, so bring the family, stay the night, and enjoy a great day on the New River.

Start and Course Change

Due to road resurfacing work on Roby Greene Rd, Boone-Roubaix will now be starting at River Girl Fishing Company in Todd (the mid-point of the prior course) and we have re-routed the course. The Men’s Cat 3/4, Women’s P1234, Collegiate Men B and Women C races are now slightly longer, and the Women’s Cat 4 and Collegiate Women B/C and Men D are on a much flatter and considerably more paved route. We have also switched the start times for the W1234/College Woman A and the College Men C race.
There are still a ton of unpaved roads, which after this most brutal winter in the history of the High Country, will still prove to be a serious test of riders and their equipment. While Del Coffey is gone, the initial climb up Big Flatts Church is steep and slick enough to deserve Koppenburg status.
The new map and course description are posted, and we’ve updated the online registration on BikeReg. So sign up!

Course Inspection Friday March 3

I dragged along Daniel from Beech Mountain (our hosts for the Beech Mountain Time Trial on May 14) who was rocking standard 23c tires for a quick peek at the course last week before the big melt over the weekend and the rain we are getting now. He coasted along no sweat on the flat sections, and his bike handled the conditions just fine. We’ve got one new picture uploaded. I’m hoping to get more shots taken this Sunday, and we are shooting video next week, so keep checking back for updates.
